Aussie tourist ‘hacked’ his phone to access stolen property

Posted April 09, 2019 08:27:25 A tourist in Sydney’s south-east has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to hack his phone and steal valuable property.

The 31-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after officers found a stolen iPad and a laptop that were connected to his phone.

“I think it was a hack, I can’t be absolutely sure but I think it could have been,” Detective Inspector David Waddell said.

“We don’t know who did it and it’s very unlikely it was the person who took his iPad, but we believe it could be someone that wanted to sell it.”

Detective Inspector Waddill said the suspect was in a low-income area and could be vulnerable.

“It’s quite possible he’s an older person, a very senior person,” he said.

The suspect is due to appear in Sydney Local Court on Tuesday.
